Sangria might make you think of warm summer nights and tropical fruits, but this apple-based cocktail will have you ready for fall. Here, we went for a white wine sangria, rounded out with spicy ginger beer and sweet apple cider. Here are a couple tips to make the best batch possible:
What apples should I use?
When it comes to apples, anything goes, but we definitely think it’s best (both visually and flavor-wise,) to pick a few types of apples. We used Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious here, but Honeycrisp and Gala work great in this fall cocktail, too.
What kind of wine is best?
Sometimes the best way to use up a bottle of not-so-great wine is to dump it into sangria, but if you’re out at the store, why not buy a wine you actually want to drink? Dryer or more acidic white wines like Sauvignon Blanc, Albariño, and Muscadet are good choices for this sweeter sangria. You could even use a dry sparkling wine or Prosecco, if you’re feeling it. If you’re really stumped about which wine to buy, try a smaller wine shop and ask one of the employees for help!
Can I use ginger ale instead of ginger beer?
Absolutely! Though ginger ale tends to be a lot sweeter than beer (and packs less of a kick), but its still delicious! If you do opt for ginger ale, I'd go for a dryer wine.
